modern family is a hit

great tv series and definitely lives up to the hype. but i think i just realized why i don't like watching re-runs on DVDs. it's because there is so much other stuff out there that i haven't seen yet. if i spend time watching shows/movies i have already seen, i feel like i wasted time.

the social network

just saw the movie and thought it was real interesting. made me want to read the book... but why do i care so much about some kid? feels like i'm just falling into the celebrity garbage gossip trap.

in my latest trip to boston, i had dinner with a good friend of mine who knew some people who knew zuckerberg while at harvard. my friend said he was generally known as a big a-hole, which is funny because that's how the movie described him as well. my friend hadn't even seen the movie yet.

johnny depp

seems like such a different person during interviews when compared to his wildly-off characters. i wonder what he's like in private?

toy story 3

so amazed on how creative people can be with such simple things and integrate the most mundane thing into such clever actions. using a cubby holes as jail cells for toys or a snack vending machine for a secret hideout.

movies

they are an inferior goods. who knew, but makes perfect sense. during economic downturns, families will trade down sporting events for movies. when the economy does well, less people go to the movies because they can afford to go to sporting events for entertainment.

miyazaki movies

why are they so bad when dubbed with english, but so cute when you read the subtitles. is it just more acceptable to have japanese voices be so cute and english voices not?

filming car scenes in movies

saw a movie shoot from our condo today. not sure which movie. the scene was a car chase (we think). the coolest part though was the use of a porsche cayenne turbo modified to be a moving movie camera. it looked so freakin cool.... aileen will post pics of it later (got it aileen?).

in the meantime, here's a link to the company that makes it. pursuit systems. so awesome.
